Baptiste Yoga | Journey Into Power

Baptiste Yoga refers to the methodology and sequence known as Journey Into Power, which has roots in Ashtanga, Iyengar, and Bikram styles of yoga. JIP is Baron Baptiste’s signature sequence and includes the five essential categories of asana– standing poses, forward bends, backbends, twists, and inversions– and challenges students to step up, show up, and find their own personal edge. Whether you’ve never set foot on a yoga mat before or are a handstand champion, you’ll build strength, endurance, flexibility, and a new experience of personal power.

Heat is approximately 90°, lower humidity than a Bikram Class.

Bring blocks and straps if you have them, a mat and mat-sized towel, and water bottle.  Hand towels are permitted.

Please no food within 2 hours of class.

This is an athletic, physically challenging class; best suited to those with a moderate level of fitness.

There are several postures that are weight-bearing on the wrists, so if there is arthritis or pain in the wrists/hands, expect to modify the postures according to instruction.

If you have not practiced at BYCA in the past, please arrive no later than 7:30 pm to complete registration paperwork.

Certified Baptiste Yoga Teacher – Tier 2 / RYT 500

“I started practicing hot power yoga in Grand Rapids in September 2011 as a recent college graduate trying to navigate my way through the “real world” (and not always doing it very gracefully).  Yoga taught me how to manage stress and challenge myself in a healthy way, and to balance strength with compassion.  I quickly knew that I needed to share the benefits of this practice with others, and after assisting for a year I decided to make the leap into teaching, and attended Level One: Journey Into Power with Baron Baptiste in August 2013. I have been teaching and in ongoing development with the Baptiste Institute ever since and am currently one of a handful of Tier 2/RYT 500 Certified Baptiste Teachers in the state of Michigan.

The 3 Source Principles of Baptiste Yoga– Physicalness, Possibility, and Empowerment– are the foundation for my practice, teaching, and life. This methodology forces me to get out of my head and into my body, being truly aware of what I have to work with right NOW. As a student in my class you can expect connection to yourself and others through intentional breath, direct alignment and transition cues, and lots of sweat.  I look forward to co-creating with you!”
