🗓️ 2023 is a fun year! In a few months it will be the TENTH anniversary of Bikram Yoga Capital Area, and in August it will be the TWENTIETH anniversary of our studio owner Ann's Bikram Yoga practice.

🤩 It is also the ONE-HUNDREDTH birthday of the opening of Bishnu Ghosh's College of Physical Education (later changed to Yoga College)....in Kolkata, India....where it all started, and where it continues today.

💜 (Bishnu Ghosh is the younger brother of Paramahansa Yogananda, for those who know if the Self-realization Fellowship or Yogananda's legacy.) 💜

As time passes, and as the world seems to get even more distracted and scattered, our faith in this consistent, comprehensive yoga method only deepens and grows.

We have very exciting stuff coming over the next few months.

And we are so grateful to be here burning the Bikram-Ghosh lineage torch for all desiring to transform and heal!!

🔥 Alas, discipline is usually the first thing to go when yoga gets passed along too quickly and without the backing of lineage or a deep personal commitment to the method. It's more common than not these days, so we just have to recognize it, educate a bit, and keep this torch burning!!

Something strange yet unsurprising has happened as yoga asana practice has gotten commoditized and commercialized. And as the yoga teacher training market has made it nearly impossible for a traditional lineage to persist...

What you see out there called "yoga" has all but lost its basic principles of stillness, concentration, normal breathing, precision, faith, healing, focus on the spine, and discipline! Yet these are exactly what makes it work.

This used to trouble me to witness, but like my mom said to me once: "You can't ruin the yoga."

I responded: "That's true I guess. The yoga itself can't be messed with. It's just people's understanding that can be totally misinformed." (Not an exact quote: my language wasn't that clean 😂)

Bikram Yoga. It is still here after 50 years in the U.S.!!
